Best of Target 10/18-10/24 and My Shopping Ordeal (A must read for all Target shoppers)

I really waffled whether or not to post the Target deals this week because I am still pretty upset with them. For those of you who don't already know, the Target where I (used to) shop refused to take most of my coupons the week before last.

I had spent a couple of hours shopping and had a buggy full of stuff. I was within the terms of the coupons, and within the terms of the Target coupon policy--I even presented them with a copy of the corporate policy--but they still refused to allow me to:

    * Use manufacturer & Target coupons for the same item - referred to as stacking. The 1st and 5th bulleted items on the Target coupon policy states that this is permitted. (This item alone caused me to have to pull half of my purchases back out of my shopping bags.)
    * Use manufacturer's coupons to purchase travel size products, even though the manufacturer's coupons did not specify size AND the cost of the item was greater than the face value of the coupon. (In one instance, the coupon even stated that it valid on a travel size, but Target still refused.)
    * Use a Target coupon to purchase an item that was the correct size as stated by the coupon, but was .01¢ less than the face value of the coupon. The 6th bulleted item in the Target coupon policy states that Target will reduce the coupon if it exceeds the value of the item.
    * (Pay special attention to this one - it's the epitome of stupid!) Refused to let me use a Quaker oatmeal coupon that stated "good on ANY Quaker oatmeal product" because (here's the stupid part) the item I was buying wasn't pictured on the coupon! (How big of a moron do you have to be to qualify for a job as a Target manager???)
    * Refused to let me use a coupon for a DVD that WAS pictured on the coupon (see above) promotional material because the packaging did not include the words "movie staycation". P.S. None of the DVD's were labeled "movie staycation".

In the end, I was so disgusted with Targets blatant refusal to honor their own policy that I dumped every single item in my bags back out on the belt, and asked for all of my coupons back. I left Target without purchasing anything. What's more, I have no intention of shopping at Target again. (Sorry, Michael and Jayme, that means your Christmas gifts will have to come from the other big box store.)

Even though I won't be shopping at Target anymore, that doesn't mean you need to stop shopping at Target. That's why I decided to go ahead and post the Target deals. Just be forewarned - you may not be able to use some of your coupons. It's because of something you are doing wrong; it's because the Target stores are run by a bunch of idiot's!

Eats on the Cheap (and Easy) - Slow Cooker Beef Roast

Easiest Crockpot Beef Roast

1 beef roast - get a cheap cut of meat; cooking it in the crockpot makes it tender
1 envelope onion soup mix
1 can cream of mushroom soup (optional)
1 can of soda - Coke, Sprite, Ginger Ale, etc. (it really doesn't matter what kind you use)

Put the beef roast in the slow cooker and cover with the remaining ingredients. Cook on low for 6-8 hours.

Serve with plain white rice, egg noodles or mashed potatoes to soak up the "gravy" like juice.

"They say it's my birthday. I'm gonna have a good time," with all the great freebies!

Birthdays are a great time to rack up on freebies at restaurants that you wouldn't ordinary get. Most restaurant chains and some local restaurants have "club" or "member" sign-ups that will provide you with discounts and coupons throughout the year. As an added bonus, many of them will send you a special discount especially for your birthday. They are also pretty scrupulous about not sharing your contact information with other organizations.

So far today I have received 20% off at a local seafood restaurant (to bad I just ate there a couple of days ago), a free dinner at Captain D's, a free coffee drink from Biggby's, Rita's italian ice, and a Marble Slab treat. With all these goodies, who needs a cake?

Money Saving Idea - Food

Ditch the plastic bag. Fruit keeps best if you remove it from the plastic bag you brought it home in before placing it in the crisper drawer. This is also true of green and red bell peppers.

Cost: Nothing.

Savings: Varies depending on the amount of and types of fruits.

Bonus: Fresher fruit longer so you and your family eat healthier.

Shop around for prescription medications. Drug prices can vary drastically at different pharmacies. Note the name, dose and quantity of the medicine your doctor prescribed, then compare prices at local pharmacies by calling around or searching destinationrx.com. Check prices at your local warehouse clubs too - they often feature substantial discounts. Go to Costco.com and click on "Pharmacy" to see many prices posted. Costco offers an even greater price cut to people without prescription drug insurance.
